Answers about training accountability
Q. How can management be certain operators are actually using and learning from Nalco Customer University training?

A. NCU builds optional management tracking and monitoring capability into each course through pre- and post-testing of students. If facility management chooses this administrative tracking option, supervisors and plant managers can easily obtain status updates on each individual, as well as on all on-going NCU training throughout the plant. Now, for the first time, training and accomplishment records can be maintained on the knowledge and competence of each operator.

Q. Is there a way to quantify Return On Investment (ROI) for Nalco Customer University training?

A.There are two ways to quantify ROI for NCU training. The first is to compare the cost of sending plant staff to offsite training (including travel expenses and downtime) to NCU costs. It is clear that NCU training generates significant cost savings versus traditional methods.

The second is to identify the operational efficiencies created by having better-trained operators. While increased operational efficiencies are normally clearly evident, they can be difficult to actually quantify. Nalco Customer University is in the process of developing new measurements to help quantify specific operational efficiencies.
