Answers about the training itself

Q. How is Nalco Customer University training different from current training options -seminars, conferences, manuals, etc.?

A. In typical offsite training scenarios, personnel often go to a course once, then quickly forget or fail to make use of what they have learned. Or they must wade through thick, hard-to-understand manuals. Training is not consistent from program to program, which means personnel are not all trained to the same standards. Because most training is group-oriented, there is a lack of customized learning specific to the student's needs. Offsite training is also expensive, requires significant down time and typically offers no method of learning measurement or accountability.

NCU training is very different. It is consistent from course to course, so all your personnel have received the same learning. Computer-enhanced interactivity makes the material both more interesting and more valuable. Interactive real-world simulations show students the dynamics of how each of their actions affects the overall operation.

Because the training is available anytime (24x7) and anywhere (home or work or anywhere they have computer access), students have significantly less downtime. They also have the flexibility to repeat subjects they are having difficulty understanding until they master them. In addition, NCU courses have built-in monitoring, tracking and reporting capabilities that allow management to measure learning on student-by-student basis.

Q. What kinds of training does Nalco Customer University provide?

A. NCU offers a variety of training options. First and foremost, we have developed virtual courseware that leverage the Internet to transfer Nalco's industry-leading knowledge and experience to your operations personnel. In the future, we will offer seminars that are broadcast via the web, as well as regional training seminars and training provided at our Naperville, Illinois Headquarters.

Q. How many courses does Nalco Customer University offer, and what are they?

A. NCU currently offers training in three multiple-course "tracks." Current course tracks are Power Generation, Cooling Water and Water Preparation. At present, there are 11 different courses available, as well as an interactive Boiler Simulation. NCU plans an ongoing expansion of the offering, eventually reaching over 100 courses in 20 different application areas.

Q. Are courses available for different levels of operator experience?

A. Yes. Not all NCU courses will be relevant to all operators. All course tracks, therefore, are designed to be sequential, allowing students to take only the training they need and want.

Q. Can operators take Nalco Customer University training at home?

A. Because NCU training is computer and Internet-based, students can take courses anywhere they have access to a computer, at work or at home.

Q. Do students have to be computer literate?

A. Although NCU courses run on a computer, there is no special computer competence required. Courses are straightforward and easy to understand, and there is an Introduction to NCU course that clearly explains course navigation.
